Cold Kickball Tournament
TIME: Saturday, 2/1/25 – Team Captains meet at 8:30 am in the field; first round of games start at 9 am at Bartel’s Beach. Play ends before sunset.
LOCATION: Bartel’s Beach, 210 S Ferry Drive (North).
** If lake ice is not conducive to play, the event will take place at Wallace Park instead (675 Industrial Drive).
COST: $20.00 per person (minimum of 9 players per team) with proceeds going to Legendary Lake Mills Chamber Main Street.
INFO: Must be 18 to play. Run (across the ice) into home plate! Get a team together or sign up as a free agent and register online.
For footwear, just bring snow boots – no strap-on ice gripping devices allowed. Kick balls will be provided.
RULES:
Pitching
- Pitch Speed: The ball must be rolled underhand at a moderate speed.
- Bouncing: The ball cannot exceed 1 foot off the ground when crossing home plate.
- Strike Zone: A strike is called if the ball crosses within 1 foot of home plate and is kicked at but missed.
Kicking
- Players must kick the ball from behind or on home plate.
- Fair Ball: The ball must travel beyond 15 feet to be called fair.
- A kicker cannot bunt; a light touch results in an out.
Fielding
- Fielders must stay out of the base paths unless actively making a play.
- Infielders cannot advance past the pitching mound until the ball is kicked.
Running
- Base Paths: Runners must stay within the baseline.
- Force Out: Runners can be thrown or tagged out.
- No Headshots: A runner hit above the shoulders is safe unless they intentionally use their head to block the ball.
- Leading Off/Stealing: Allowed.
Scoring
- 1 run is scored each time a player safely reaches home plate.
- Mercy Rule: The game ends early if a team is ahead by 10+ runs after 4 innings.
Fouls
A foul occurs if:
- The ball lands outside the foul lines.
- The kicker contacts the ball more than once in a kick.
- The ball fails to travel past the designated fair-play line.
- Three fouls equal one out.
Outs
An out occurs when:
- A kicked ball is caught on the fly.
- A fielder tags the runner or base before the runner arrives (on a force play).
- A runner is hit below the shoulders with the ball.
Sportsmanship
- No excessive roughness, arguing, or unsportsmanlike behavior.
- Captains handle disputes with referees or game officials.
Equipment
- Cleats are optional but metal spikes are prohibited.
- Dress for the weather. All play is outdoors, likely on a frozen lake.
TEAM SIGNUP by Monday, 1/22/24; schedule shared by 1/29/25.
9-players on the field at a time, including the catcher. Each team must provide an umpire for a separate game throughout the day of play.
Games are 6 innings or 45 minutes of play. No new inning starts after 40 minutes.
