Important Update

February 1, 2018 – Due to a lack of snow cover, we have had to cancel some of our events for the 2018 Knickerbocker Ice Festival. All Rock Lake activities are canceled, except for the Fisheree. That means no Iceberg Open Golf Tournament, Softball Tournament or Rock Lake Under Ice/Gumby Plunge. Golf teams that signed up at TT’s can pick up their refunds there. Madison canceled two of their lake events that were to be held this weekend as well. Although the ice is nice and thick, without snow for traction, it is also a sheet of…well, ice! VERY slippery, and very dangerous for sport events. Safety first.

Games in Commons Park have also been revised due to a lack of snow cover on the ground. The morning activities have been canceled, BUT THE OPTIMIST SKATING PARTY IS A GO. The Fish Toss and the Snowball Eating Contest will go on (afternoon), but no IdiderDAD without snow on the ground for those sleds.

We know that snow is in the forecast for Saturday, but there won’t be enough time to set up for the events at that point.

What can you still do on Knickerbocker Saturday? LOTS!

  • Fisheree
  • Ice Carvers (17 of them spread out in downtown Lake Mills)
  • Royal Coronation
  • Tyranena Warming Shack and Arts Alliance Art Show
  • Optimist Skating Party
  • Tyranena Bags Tournament
  • FREE Hayrides
  • Chili Contest
  • Afternoon Family Games in Commons Park
  • Lots of shopping in our shops, eating in our restaurants, and thirst-quenching in our beverage joints!

So far, the Winter of 2017/2018 has teased us with arctic cold…then spring-like warmth…and then cold and warm again. Winter in Wisconsin – it’s what we’ve come to expect! We are hoping that there is a nice, thick base of ice on Rock Lake to kick off the annual Knickerbocker Ice Festival.

Mark your calendars for Friday, February 2 and Saturday, February 3 for the 2018 Knickerbocker Ice Festival. It will be a fun day for all to enjoy winter events in Lake Mills! The Knickerbocker Ice Festival, named after the company that harvested ice from Rock Lake in the early 1900s, and the Lake Mills Main Street Program will host a weekend full of indoor and outdoor events to connect Lake Mills with that icy past.

There are fun activities for the entire family, people of all ages, during the Knickerbocker Ice Festival. Enjoy family park games and softball, golf and ice fishing on Rock Lake. And wonderful ice carvings all over downtown!

Friday, February 2nd

Special Thanks to our Gold Sponsors

Much appreciation to the Gold Sponsors of the 2018 Knickerbocker Ice Festival – their overall support of this event ensures the continued success of a fun winter weekend.

This year’s Gold Sponsors are Crystal Farms, Culvers, Greenwoods State Bank, Ephraim Faience Pottery, Chapter 2 and Harms Insurance.

The Knickerbocker Ice Festival is also a great weekend to visit many of the businesses that help make the Ice Festival possible. Michelle Burkard and Rob Lewis of Lewis Station Winery believe that the Knickerbocker Ice Festival is an important weekend for their business.

“The Knickerbocker Ice Festival brings so many locals and tourists to Lake Mills for the fun activities, food and ice wine tasting, making this one of our busiest days of the year.”

When you have exhausted all that downtown Lake Mills has to offer, don’t forget the great businesses beyond the downtown district – many of them are sponsors of this event and they are part of the recipe that makes this community great!
